1972 Motobecane Le Champion garage queen survivor

Description

amazingly original ‘barn find’ 1972 Motobecane Le Champion. One owner, who bought it new in 1972 and used it to trip that summer, and then very sparingly after. Never ridden in the rain. A claim of fewer than 300 original miles seems correct. Suntour bar cons and 27inch Rigida clinchers added when the bike used to be purchased. The SR Laprade seat post used to be probably added in the late 1970’s as I don’t think they were out in 1972. The extremely nice Brooks Professional saddle is original to the bike as new, as are the cables, bar tape and hoods. 3TTT bar and stem still retain the entire original stickers and are drilled to route the barcons in a very professional manner. Original Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur has a 1972 date code. Hubs are Campagnolo Record, not the ‘Tipo’ often seen on these. Also note the ‘Tipo’ nut on the Record skewer on the rear which is often seen on these. Paint is nearly perfect, with only some chips, the most notable where the Campanolo shifters were removed. Has that classic ‘crazing’ as seen in some fine china. I have not washed it, just given it a quick wipe down. Silca pump is a frame fit, mated to a Campagnolo clip and is likely a in reality early one. Campagnolo head. Note the pump adapter threaded onto the barcon cable router. Universal model 61 brakes with blue lettering. Tires are original and completely done. I can let the buyer swap them out with whatever they would really like, or leave them as is for display. You would be hard pressed to find a better original example. measures appx 59.5 square Please wait to pay until invoiced, so I can get the most productive shipping rate for you.
